My website's header and images are meant to show a sense of my style and interests. These pictures act as a visual introduction, making it easier for visitors to know the purpose of my website, which is why I included a picture of myself. It immediately connects with the audience by expressing the idea of what this website is about. According to Hodges, a carefully chosen header and images increase user engagement. When readers/visitors can easily identify the sense of the website, they are more likely to look at it and explore it further. (Hodges, 2023)
Because I live in the dorms, I couldn't capture a real picture of my plants, or guitar, so I used some online. Still, I made sure that I had permission to use these pictures by reading the rules carefully before using any of the photos. Hodges highlights the need to follow copyrights and credit standards in his article; that's why this practice is important (Hodges, 2023). I always ensure that my websites are legal and professional to avoid any issues and remain creative.
My header image was made using a few image editing techniques Manovich mentioned (Manovich, 2014). To provide a more colorful picture while also creating visual interest, I added a thin pink color to the picture and making some pictures blur in the background while trying to make everything in the image stay the same. This edit makes the picture more personal to me (I love pink, and my room theme is pink), and for the reader, it's not just a blank white wallpaper. It's a colorful, positive picture to look at.
As Davidson mentioned, Making my multi-layer image was more complicated than creating a single-layer one (Davidson, 2017). Making a single-layer image is way more simple than making a multi-layer image. The multi-layer edit gives the image a different approach, which makes it more deep and personal and allows me to be more creative. Both edits require careful attention to how things look and how colors work. However, using multi-layer gives my header a more dynamic and interesting look, which also helps to show off my personal style and makes the readers more engaged in reading my website.
